One day I was in Trader Joe's (grocery store) and found some Special Cider. So I brought it home and started to research recipes. All the time thinking about Mom.
All the recipes call for taking the cider, and reducing it down to a syrup. So I did that.
On January first I was ready to make them. I mixed up the first batch and could tell the dough was too dry from adding in ALL the flour (It was meant to be a flexible amount).
Then the next batch I forgot the melted butter. When I finally got the recipe right I messed up by using canola oil to fry. The donuts soaked up so much oil I couldn't eat them.
That is when I decided to give it up for the day. Sometimes, when you are learning something new, you have to make a bunch of mistakes just to learn to do it right.
Guess that is the way I learn. At least about cider donuts.
