A Happy Man

Picture
This is a proud Farmer J, showing that his tree has grown taller than him.  See how happy he is?
Picture
At the start of the warm weather, Farmer J planted these cacti.  It was one 'paddle' per hole.  You can see how much they have grown over the Summer.  Some even have 'fruit' on them.   The little yellow balls.  I have to say Farmer J has a green thumb.  Lucky for me.

Anyway...I have been trying to download pictures again, with no results.  I just want to be able to do what I want, when I want to do it.

What I wanted to show you was the big bags of Granny Smith apples that my friend brought me.  One of the few people in town who got apples this year.

So...since i prayed to be shown the next right action...I would guess that it means I need to bake apple crumb pies.  Now...where did I put my Crisco?

My Last Few Days

Picture
I have not been staying at my house for the last couple of nights.  This was the Sunset I was able to see from the other back yard last night.  It was spectacular!
Picture
This is what the sky looked like this morning...with a little editing of the power lines and fences.  It wasn't actually of the Sunrise, but it still looks good to me.
Picture
This is me sending you all love and happiness for the rest of the week.  You know, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Also, I would also like to say happy Autumnal Equinox.  From now on till next year, the days will be getting shorter.  Shorter in the respect that the day light hours will be decreasing.  At first it is OK.  Then I start needing more.

Isn't that the way they say it goes...I think that is an old song.

By a dead guy.  Sorry.  Cat Stevens...I believe.  Anyway.  You get the picture...right?

P.S.

BFF just informed me it was Jim Croce.  Thanks, Girlfriend!  Sometimes I need a little help from my friends!

Here we go again!

Too Many Questions

Picture
I went out this morning to survey the needs of my yard, and I scared my falcon off.    He flew up in our dead tree.  That's when I ran back in the house to get my camera and zoom lens.  I had a hard time getting this in focus...as you can see.

I call him 'mine' because he seems to be living around here...and stopping by my yard pretty regular.

Is it the water, or the vast quantity of smaller birds to prey on?  Or...both?  I have to say, I have never seen him catch anything.

Plus, I am pleased, and strangely comforted that he is here.  Every time I see him, it makes me wonder why he shows himself to me?  I could easily miss his short-lived trips to my yard.

And...how do I know it is a male?  (I have lots of questions.)

It seems to make me happy...so...what else matters?

Blessings to all.

A Pleasant Visit Or Falcon Stew?

Picture
This is an enlarged photo of the Peregrine Falcon, taking a bath in an old crock pot liner.  I keep water in it for the dogs to drink.
Picture
He's washing his little face!
Picture
I guess he is drip drying.
Picture
Then, I went and got my zoom lens.
Picture
He hopped around the crock several times, on top and on the ground.  This is him climbing out of the crock again.  I feel so blessed to have seen such a thing.
Picture
He was checking out something by the bottom of the crock.  A bug?
Picture
The reason he uses the crock is because it is sturdy enough and deep enough to get a good bath 'on'.
Picture
I have seen him do this particular move several times.  It seems those feathers on his chest are quite long and look extra soft.  About half his leg disappears when he gets fluffy like this.  And look at those talons.
Picture
Something caught his attention, and off he went.  Just as suddenly as he showed up.  It had been such a long time since I last saw him, I thought he had moved on.

Glad for the visit.

A New Name For Bad Dog?

9/16/2011

Picture
What you are looking at here is two leashes hooked together and tied to the tree.  And, yes, Bad Dog is being bad, as usual.

She keeps digging out of the yard, and sometimes it takes us a while to figure out where the  'Next' escape path is.  She walks around the yard, watching us to see if we take our eyes off of her.

As soon as she thinks we are sufficiently distracted, she takes off.  Several times I have caught her in mid act of being naughty and she acts naughty faster so she can do more bad stuff before I make her get back in the yard.

Last week, she got out and ran down the street, as I'm running behind her, yelling for her to stop.  Fat chance of that.  She was on a mission.

You see, a horse had left a calling card in the street.  She ran straight over to the steaming pile, and threw herself right on top of it.  Rolling around as fast as she could, she got up two or three times to get a better angle on the pile and grab a snack or three before running back to the house.  It was disgusting and hilarious at the same time.

Needless to say, she got a bath.

I found it satisfying to watch her do the walk of shame to the bathroom.

Her name really is Bad Dog now!  Maybe...it should be 'Turd Dog'.

Signs Of Fall

My sunflower...picked clean of all it's seeds by thew birds.
Picture
This one has a few seeds left.  It seems the other ones are gone, too.
Picture
These are tomatoes I picked Monday evening.
Picture
I picked these today.  They will be better tomorrow or the next day.  If I leave them on the plant much longer the birds start to peck holes in it.  Not that these tomatoes are all that pretty, but they will taste good.
Picture
Here are my Sedem.  In all it's Glory I might add.  They are very intricate tiny flowers.
Picture
This picture better shows how much detail they have.  Love them!  If you look close you can see tiny black dots around the edge of the blooms.
Picture
I just love these.

Anyway...I am off!  Later.

Rain or Not?

9/14/2011

Picture
It has been trying to rain around here for about five days now.  We really need it to rain, but I think we live in this little pocket where we get missed by most storms.  Farmer J and I went into town Saturday and got caught in some real stormy weather.  We had to pull over.  I said that before.  Anyway...there was hail and the water was running real fast in the ditches.  Exciting.  It was a fun day out.  We even went out for Sushi.  What a happy girl I am.

The cloud cover is low right now.  I wonder if it will rain.  Farmer J would be so pleased if it does.  I worry if it does rain, will it cool off or get humid...yuk.  Humidity is hard on me.

That is the main reason I had to leave Illinois.  Couldn't stand the weather.

I knew I belonged out here.  Still do.  Hope you all have a great day.  Write more later.  Blessings.

As you can see here, this is what my garden looks like after the dead and dying are gone.  As usual...it is now goat food.
Picture
This shows the corn being gone.  I need to get this ready to plant again.  Farmer J and I want a lot of golden beets.  They are just so delicious.  We love them roasted or pickled.  If you have trouble with the red ones, you may really enjoy the golden beets.  We also want to plant a bunch of lemon cucumbers next year, too.  They were a big hit this year.  Thanks for the suggestion, BFF.
Picture
In our back yard we have an old Christmas tree, all grown up.  When Farmer J and I were trimming trees, we trimmed up all the dead branches out from under the tree.  It now looks like a cave.
Picture
This is what it looks like from inside 'the cave'.  The branches on the ground are what has been cut out.  Now all we need is a bench or SWING  to sit on inside the tree cave.
Picture
This is the view looking up.  It is what it looked like before we cut out the dead stuff.  It really is quite a shelter inside.

We used to call them 'forts' when we were kids.  It could even be a playhouse.

I wonder if I will ever grow up.

Probably not much point in it now.

Back In Action

My sedem is blooming.  I would say about half of these have bloomed in this picture.

I would also like to bring to your attention that I am finally posting again.  I was having camera and computer problems.  I think we are all better now.  Yeah!

Actually, I tried to post yesterday three times.  It was raining and then got stormy.  Farmer J and I even got caught out in some hail and some flooding.  We had to pull over for a little while.  I loved it.
Picture
This is where I had some squash plants.  They turned into goat food.
Picture
I pulled up some corn, too.  It is all gone now, though.  Goat food.
Picture
This says my potatoes are ready to dig up.  Or past time...maybe.  I am waiting for someone who can kick a shovel or a pitch fork.
Picture
Plus...being the lucky woman that I am,  I now have another swing.  This one fits three.  The Lad gave it to me.  It is deluxe!  Thanks, Buddy!

I think EVERYONE should have a swing.  I think it should be mandatory in the construction of the house, like a bathroom toilet.  Fifteen minutes in a swing will make a cranky person better.  At least fifteen.  The more time swinging, the better.  It is just the best therapy for ails you.

Sometimes, we sit out at night with all the lights out and look at the stars.  Time just slips away.  Like now.  I am so behind.

Be back soon.

Promise

For about four or five days this last week, I did some heavy soul searching.  I was trying to decide...should I keep up this web-site.

I have till the first of October to pay for my site on Weebly and to pay for my domain name.  Two years is about $170.  Not bad...but still a chunk of change.

It isn't only the money.  writing this is still a commitment.  A job.  It doesn't matter...I would write most days, anyway.  Weather it was on here or not.

What amazes me, is the amount of people that read this each day.  To those who are, thank you.  It means so much to me.

So...if you are wondering...I have chosen to keep writing on here.  Farmer J is going to help with cost, so that isn't an issue anymore.

What a Lucky Gal I am.  I have this ever increasing amount of help and love supporting me from my 'new' family.  That's on top of my 'old faithfuls'.  The ones who have always been here...you know who you are.  You know I love you more than my luggage.  Name that movie.

I have also been having technical difficulties with my camera, or my computer.  I was hoping to show you what I have been doing in the garden.  Some plants have been pulled.  Others are a little worse for wear.  I want to get my winter garden in.  We have plans for a much bigger, more organized, garden for next year.  Farmer J and I want to have a roadside stand.  So, there is lots of work to do.  I will never run  out of things to do.

Hope you all stick around to see where this goes.

I will be back.

Promise.
