I have to say that I am now better prepared, educated, and familiar with how things work to get the desired results.
For instance, I learned that to keep squirrels out of the garden, Irish Spring soap works pretty good (you may need to apply a few times throughout the season). Just take the bar and drag it across the fence about knee high, all the way around. I sliced some up and dropped it down their holes and covered with rocks just to be thorough.
I also became pretty good at the fertilizing with compost tea on a regular basis and getting the timing right.
Another thing I became good at is some container planting. I hope to get a few more containers filled with compost so I can start some asparagus, strawberries, and lettuce beds. They are about four feet square and would be easy to cover to keep out birds and squirrels.
Just a few ideas for the coming season.
