Fall...According To My Plants 10/11/2011
This is what my Sedum looked like about six weeks ago. Today...it looked like this. All brown and dying. It makes me a little sad. I love the Summer months. The Lad has been working a lot lately, and today he had some free time to work on my computer...thank goodness! I have been having such troubles with it. Hopefully that is all behind me, now. I have also been helping Farmer J with some stuff at his house this last week or so. He has been putting on an addition to his home that is about to get finished here real soon. At least finished enough to be used. We are all so excited! Two whole bathrooms more! Anyway, we have lots of things to be grateful for. I have been working a lot, so it made it hard to do other things like bake, or can. Just keeping up with the regular stuff was not happening, either. I did manage to fix the towel rack, and the vacuum cleaner. Thank Frank! I didn't want to buy another cleaner. Besides...the dog hair was getting deep. I have been hoping to get some garden in for the Winter, and prep the other spaces so they will be ready for next Spring...but that hasn't happened yet. I need help. Maybe in a week or two. Or three. Three is more like it. Help is help. Whenever you get it. ******************************************************************************* Add Comment Another Contest 10/07/2011
Today I received an E-mail from a person from the AV fair. They were asking me to make some salsa for a contest. There are four categories. Red. Green. Pico de gallo. Mango or other fruit. I am wondering which one I should make. I can only enter one. BFF is a salsa-holic. She drinks salsa! Well, she drinks my salsa. Maybe I should ask her. You see...I take this as a 'sign' that it is what I am supposed to do. You know...'show me the next right action and give me the eyes to see it' It happens at the Rodeo on Sunday the 16th of October. Should be around the end of my tomatoes. 'Cause you know...vine-ripened tomatoes will make the best salsa. Wish me luck. ******************************************************************************* New Babies on the Horizon 10/04/2011
I can't believe how much trouble I am having with my photos. AND...my web-site. Today I wanted to talk about Farmer J's goats. You see, this weekend, Farmer J and his oldest Scallywag 'rode' the neighbor's Billy goat across the street, so the 'girls' could have a date. It seems it will take three months, three days, and three minutes...before a baby shows up. We shall see. In the past, only the oldest white goat has had babies. Maybe this time it will be the two oldest ones. The Momma goat has had two litters. The first time she had three, and the last time she had four. So we could have quite a few babies running around here in January. Six. Or maybe even eight. How wonderful! Anyway...I am off. Be back later. Troubles... 10/02/2011
I have been having major problems with my computer and camera. The Lad reformatted my computer and downloaded all my needed programs. I am STILL not able to download pictures from my camera. I am hoping that I don't have to buy a new one of those just yet. But we shall see. Yesterday I went down below to San Fernando area with a girlfriend and we went to a roadside stand. They had great corn and tomatoes and chilies so we got some. I have been making corn relish today. This batch has double the amount of turmeric in it from the batch I made for the fair. I am experimenting to see if I like it better with more spice. I also liked the look of the chilies. The only thing I wanted to do that I forgot was to put in some garlic. Next time. Anyway...I have decided to keep writing here. Farmer J was good enough to help out. I am such a lucky woman. See you later...Trish ******************************************************************************* A Happy Man 09/27/2011
This is a proud Farmer J, showing that his tree has grown taller than him. See how happy he is? At the start of the warm weather, Farmer J planted these cacti. It was one 'paddle' per hole. You can see how much they have grown over the Summer. Some even have 'fruit' on them. The little yellow balls. I have to say Farmer J has a green thumb. Lucky for me. Anyway...I have been trying to download pictures again, with no results. I just want to be able to do what I want, when I want to do it. What I wanted to show you was the big bags of Granny Smith apples that my friend brought me. One of the few people in town who got apples this year. So...since i prayed to be shown the next right action...I would guess that it means I need to bake apple crumb pies. Now...where did I put my Crisco? ******************************************************************************* My Last Few Days 09/23/2011
I have not been staying at my house for the last couple of nights. This was the Sunset I was able to see from the other back yard last night. It was spectacular! This is what the sky looked like this morning...with a little editing of the power lines and fences. It wasn't actually of the Sunrise, but it still looks good to me. This is me sending you all love and happiness for the rest of the week. You know, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Also, I would also like to say happy Autumnal Equinox. From now on till next year, the days will be getting shorter. Shorter in the respect that the day light hours will be decreasing. At first it is OK. Then I start needing more. Isn't that the way they say it goes...I think that is an old song. By a dead guy. Sorry. Cat Stevens...I believe. Anyway. You get the picture...right? P.S. BFF just informed me it was Jim Croce. Thanks, Girlfriend! Sometimes I need a little help from my friends! Here we go again! ****************************************************************************** Too Many Questions 09/20/2011
I went out this morning to survey the needs of my yard, and I scared my falcon off. He flew up in our dead tree. That's when I ran back in the house to get my camera and zoom lens. I had a hard time getting this in focus...as you can see. I call him 'mine' because he seems to be living around here...and stopping by my yard pretty regular. Is it the water, or the vast quantity of smaller birds to prey on? Or...both? I have to say, I have never seen him catch anything. Plus, I am pleased, and strangely comforted that he is here. Every time I see him, it makes me wonder why he shows himself to me? I could easily miss his short-lived trips to my yard. And...how do I know it is a male? (I have lots of questions.) It seems to make me happy...so...what else matters? Blessings to all. ****************************************************************************** A Pleasant Visit Or Falcon Stew? 09/17/2011
This is an enlarged photo of the Peregrine Falcon, taking a bath in an old crock pot liner. I keep water in it for the dogs to drink. He's washing his little face! I guess he is drip drying. Then, I went and got my zoom lens. He hopped around the crock several times, on top and on the ground. This is him climbing out of the crock again. I feel so blessed to have seen such a thing. He was checking out something by the bottom of the crock. A bug? The reason he uses the crock is because it is sturdy enough and deep enough to get a good bath 'on'. I have seen him do this particular move several times. It seems those feathers on his chest are quite long and look extra soft. About half his leg disappears when he gets fluffy like this. And look at those talons. Something caught his attention, and off he went. Just as suddenly as he showed up. It had been such a long time since I last saw him, I thought he had moved on. Glad for the visit. ******************************************************************************* A New Name For Bad Dog? 09/16/2011
What you are looking at here is two leashes hooked together and tied to the tree. And, yes, Bad Dog is being bad, as usual. She keeps digging out of the yard, and sometimes it takes us a while to figure out where the 'Next' escape path is. She walks around the yard, watching us to see if we take our eyes off of her. As soon as she thinks we are sufficiently distracted, she takes off. Several times I have caught her in mid act of being naughty and she acts naughty faster so she can do more bad stuff before I make her get back in the yard. Last week, she got out and ran down the street, as I'm running behind her, yelling for her to stop. Fat chance of that. She was on a mission. You see, a horse had left a calling card in the street. She ran straight over to the steaming pile, and threw herself right on top of it. Rolling around as fast as she could, she got up two or three times to get a better angle on the pile and grab a snack or three before running back to the house. It was disgusting and hilarious at the same time. Needless to say, she got a bath. I found it satisfying to watch her do the walk of shame to the bathroom. Her name really is Bad Dog now! Maybe...it should be 'Turd Dog'. ******************************************************************************* Signs Of Fall 09/15/2011
My sunflower...picked clean of all it's seeds by thew birds. This one has a few seeds left. It seems the other ones are gone, too. These are tomatoes I picked Monday evening. I picked these today. They will be better tomorrow or the next day. If I leave them on the plant much longer the birds start to peck holes in it. Not that these tomatoes are all that pretty, but they will taste good. Here are my Sedem. In all it's Glory I might add. They are very intricate tiny flowers. This picture better shows how much detail they have. Love them! If you look close you can see tiny black dots around the edge of the blooms. I just love these. Anyway...I am off! Later. ****************************************************************************** | ArchivesFebruary 2012 CategoriesAll |
