FIREMEN! 11/09/2009
Looking at the center of the picture, you can see the smoke coming over the mountains. In actuality, the whole sky is smoky. We had such a bad time with fires around here this year that came so close to the house...it was scary. There was ash falling all over the place. At first it was white ash...which means the stuff that was burning had all burned up. Then it started being black ash. Much more scary. Black ash to me means it could still be burning when it landed. Landing in your trees. On the roof. Anything that could burn is at risk. Here are the Forestry trucks, poised and waiting to be dispersed to where they are needed most. You can see the the Police were ready to help too. And if you look behind that sign you can see more Forestry fire trucks waiting. This is what it looked like around town for several weeks. Cop cars and fire trucks (red and green) parked, waiting to deploy and relieve tired firemen all over the mountains around here. We all were waiting for the firemen to come knock on our doors to tell us to evacuate. I had my car packed with the things I thought I would have to leave if I just had time to run out the door. Pictures, my computer, some clothes, some food for us and the dogs. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to choose what was important and leave the things I would miss behind. So last night our Little Town gave an appreciation dinner to our local Firemen to let them know how much we appreciate all the hard work that it took to keep our community safe. Everyone brought dishes to pass. I made BBQ ribs, squash soup (from my garden), my zucchini bread and some cloverleaf rolls I made from scratch...just for practice. It made me feel good to do something nice for the people who keep our town safe. And the food was great! Not just mine but everyones. Here is the desert table. MY favorite! In the right hand corner is some brownies...that just disappeared! All in all it was a good time. It was nice to let the people know how we felt about them standing between us and that fire. Thanks!
