Inspiration 11/13/2009

As you can see, I have finally figured out how to change my heading!  YEAH!!!  It isn't exactly the heading I was hoping to get up there, but it is MY picture...not theirs.

I have said it before..and will say it again...it is Ree Drummond from Pioneer Woman who has inspired me to start this blog.  Right now she is running around the country signing her Cookbook.  What I like is she is not so snooty that she has to be in fancy bookstores.  Last night she was signing them in a Wal Marts (as she calls them).  AND she brought "The Hunk" with her.  Bless her for all those "can" shots of him.

I love her cause she is so generous of spirit.  I  just want to say thank you Ree!  Thanks for all your inspiration.  I just hope I can live up to your example.  Love You Gurl!

CLOUDS 11/12/2009

This is what it looks like outside in my backyard right now.  It is not raining yet, but soon...hopefully. They have said for years we are in a drought.  Usually it just clouds up like that and the wind blows, but nothing really happens.  Mostly, it is our winter sky.
Picture
I like the different layers, some are higher and of different shape....but you can still see the sun shining through and the blue sky.  Very dramatic.

What a blessing to see such beauty from my own yard.

The Girls 11/11/2009

Picture
Here are the Girls.  They jockey for space on my bed.  THEY don't care if it is made or not.  Bad Dog likes to have her head on a pillow.  She thinks she is special.  For Scaredy Dog...it is just safe.   Look at those Bat ears! I usually have it made with a cover on top I take off when I get in bed.  That way I don't have dog dirt to sleep in.

This A.M., Bad dog got on my bed before I had a chance to make it with the dog cover pulled back up.  BUT...she was still on the dog cover!  Seems to me she is finally learning how things are around here.  I AM THE BOSS!

FIREMEN! 11/09/2009

Picture
Looking at the center of the picture, you can see the smoke coming over the mountains.  In actuality, the whole sky is smoky.  We had such a bad time with fires around here this year that came so close to the house...it was scary.  There was ash falling all over the  place.
At first it was white ash...which means the stuff that was burning had all burned up.  Then it started being black ash.  Much more scary.  Black ash to me means it could still be burning when it landed.  Landing in your trees.  On the roof.  Anything that could burn is at risk.

Here are the Forestry trucks, poised and waiting to be dispersed to where they are needed most.
Picture
You can see the the Police were ready to help too.  And if you look behind that sign you can see more Forestry fire trucks waiting.
This is what it looked like around town for several weeks.  Cop cars and fire trucks (red and green) parked,  waiting to deploy and relieve tired firemen all over the mountains around here.  We all were waiting for the firemen to come knock on our doors to tell us to evacuate.  I had my car packed with the things I thought I would have to leave if I just had time to run out the door.  Pictures,  my computer, some clothes, some food for us and the dogs.  I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to choose what was important and leave the things I would miss behind.

So last night our Little Town gave an appreciation dinner to our local Firemen to let them know how much we appreciate all the hard work that it took to keep our community safe.
Picture
Everyone brought dishes to pass.  I made BBQ ribs, squash soup (from my garden), my zucchini bread and some cloverleaf rolls I made from scratch...just for practice.
It made me feel good to do something nice for the people who keep our town safe.  And the food was great!  Not just mine but everyones.
Picture
Here is the desert table.  MY favorite!  In the right hand corner is some brownies...that just disappeared!
All in all it was a good time.  It was nice to let the people know how we felt about them standing between us and that fire.  Thanks!

Ping! 11/06/2009

I am sitting here listening to the ping of my hot pepper relish sealing.  That one sound is something that makes my heart sing.  There are other sounds that do that for me....like...

My son laughing
Bad Dog when she wants something SO bad she chirps
Babies cooing...that sound of contentment
Waterfalls or rushing water
Rain on a roof...Not hard rain, just steady rain

These are the wonderments of life.  Is that a word?  I just checked and Yes it is.  Sometimes I make up my own words..."cause they just fit better".  But these sounds give me comfort.  What gives you comfort?

GRATITUDE 11/05/2009

Today has been a whirl-wind of chores and errands.  Shopping and setting up for activities in our little town.

Saturday our Cornerstone Church is having their Christmas Boutique and Tea.  Sounds like a wonder time for all.  And I get to have a brunch/tea with a bunch of  new friends.   How good for me!

I have been making hot pepper relish and zucchini bread...still need to make more.  Maybe some pomegranate jelly...if   I have the energy.

But the one word I kept hearing all day was gratitude.  What are you all grateful for?

I AM GRATEFUL FOR ALL MY WORK.
I AM GRATEFUL FOR ALL MY FAMILY.
I AM GRATEFUL FOR ALL MY FRIENDS.
I AM GRATEFUL FOR ALL MY BILLS.
I AM GRATEFUL FOR MY HEALTH.
