Motivation 01/22/2010

On My Soap Box, I brought up goat heads.  It reminded me of a time when The Lad was The Boy.  Wearing diapers.

He poked a hole in the back of his diaper.  I had just put it on and they are very expensive so I thought I'd just leave it cause it was in the back and he might not notice.

Shortly thereafter, he came up to me , pointed at his nose and went "Uhn, uhn".  When I looked up his nose there was wadded up diaper stuck up there.  He must have rolled it in little balls and used his little finger to cram them deep in his nostril.  The only thing I could think of was to get that blue/green bulb to suck snot out of his nose the DR gives you when they come home from the hospital when they are born.

When he saw me coming with that thing, he started to run and cry.  Thinking I might have to take him to the emergency room if I couldn't get it out scared me.  So I pinned him down and put him in a headlock.  All the time he is screaming and thrashing around, crying.
I got out three balls of diaper.  Looking up his nose with a flashlight, it seemed I had got it all.

I put him in his highchair and gave him a Popsicle to calm him down.  While he was in the chair, he sneezed, and again pointed to his nose, going "Uhn, uhn."  There were two more balls stuck up there.  This time he held his head back and let me use the nasal aspirator on him, thinking he might get another Popsicle.

For a long time after that, he stuck all kinds of things up his nose...rocks, peas, macaroni.  I was forever picking things out of there.

Needless to say, I became weary of his antics.
I threatened to punish him...he wasn't buying that.

One day he came to me, pointing at his nose, "Uhn, uhn."
"What did you put up there now, Boy?" as I pinched his nose.

He let out a scream, and snorted real hard!  Out came a goat head.  THAT was the LAST time he put anything up his nose.  Pain is a great motivator.

THE OFFICE 01/18/2010

After The Lad and I went to the farmers market, we stopped by the "New" office.  He wanted to show me how they fixed things up since they got the desks and chairs and stuff in there.  They had spent most of Saturday cleaning up the desks, moving things around and shopping for chairs and office supplies.  He kept saying how much he hurt....(he's not used to doing all that physical labor).  They have desks on both sides and everyone gets their own desk.  The Lad's is close to the cooler vent.

I just was checking if I told you or not, but I would say no....but when the Lad and all were looking for an office to rent they checked out several places.  When they got to this office, The Lad said..."this place reminds me of my Dad".  When he took me to see the office for the first time I told him..." you know your
Dad used to work here in this building."  So I guess his Dad is looking out for him....Thanks!

I am hoping to get things ready for my garden soon.  I have been making plans for watering with PVC pipes this year.  Automatically...I hope.  Also...I have been counting beds and what to put in them.  I will soon be showing how to make starter pots out of newspaper.  It makes transplanting so much safer for the new shoots.  Plus worms love newspaper.  Worms are free fertilizer.  This is a "happening" we want to encourage.  I would like to get my friend down the street to help me with the care of the seedlings.  He has had better luck with that than me.  I do better with what I can plant straight in the ground.

Come on spring!  I always look forward to when I can get out and put a full day in the yard. I remember the Lad's Dad would come home this time of year and pout as he stood at the slider door...that it was dark when he got home.  I feel that way too.  Plus I like it to be warm, or warmer to work outside and NO wind.  Maybe later today I can get some stuff done out there.  So till things get different...
COME ON SPRING!
